SmartKids Early Learning Goals / Curriculum
Children are born ready, able and eager to learn. They actively reach out to interact with other people, and in the world around them.
Development is not an automatic process, however. It depends on each unique child having opportunities to interact in positive relationships and enabling environments.
We believe that “school readiness” means that a child not only has developed all the academic skills necessary for success in school, but that respect for humans, critical thinking and strong self-belief and confidence must be fostered and modeled for children to grow and develop into caring, responsible personalities.
Children develop in the context of relationships and the environment around them. This is unique to each family, and reflects individual communities and cultures.
The ways in which the child engages with other people and their environment – playing and exploring, active learning, and creating underpin development across all areas
We believe that parents are the first teachers of their children and we strive to partner with you in your child’s early education.
We communicate regularly with you, sharing your child’s progress, newly acquired skills and milestones of development.
Our Early Learning Goals (curriculum) is guided by the research-based belief that children learn through active play. On-going formative observation, assessment and planning of personal development target is at the heart of effective early years practice.
The Early Learning Goals we focus on during the SmartKids years are reflected in the below figure and are in more detail described in our Early Learning Goals handout
The SmartKids curriculum is guided by and a combination of the EYFS (Early Years Foundation Stage) from the United Kingdom and the global recognized IB-PYP program.
SmartKids is a Candidate School* for the International Baccalaureate® Primary Years Programme (IB-PYP). This school is pursuing authorization as an IB World School. These are schools that share a common philosophy: a commitment to high quality, challenging, international education, that SmartKids believes is important for our children.
*Only schools authorized by the IB Organization can offer any of its four academic programmes: the Primary Years Programme (PYP), the Middle Years Programme (MYP), the Diploma Programme, or the Career-related Programme (CP). Candidate status gives no guarantee that authorization will be granted. For further information about the IB and its programmes, visit www.ibo.org.
